Gas turbines in a combined cycle configuration have become one of the most efficient sources of power generation available. New sources of natural gas and increased efficiency have spurred the proliferation of new combined cycle units around the globe. They provide the added benefit of cleaner emissions compared to other fossil-fueled power generation. Umicore’s stationary catalyst technology is able to further reduce NOx emissions to ultra-low levels with the use of an ammonia-based reagent.
Umicore also has an innovative catalyst that can reduce NOx, CO and VOCs simultaneously in one catalyst layer. In the past, two separate catalyst layers were required to perform the same reductions. This dual function design for NOx removal and CO/VOC oxidation can be retrofitted into existing units and typically provides a significant pressure drop savings, which translates to higher unit power output and an improved unit heat rate that results in lower lifecycle fuel cost.
